The Office of Elementary and Secondary Education (ED) offers the final priorities, requirements, definitions and selection criteria for the upcoming State Tribal Education Partnership Program (CFDA Number: 84.415) competition.
The funding goes to tribal education agencies to increase their role in the education of American Indian and Alaska Native students, including education to meet the unique educational and culturally related academic needs of AI/AN students and improve their academic achievement.
The purpose of these grants is to (a) promote increased collaboration between TEAs and State educational agencies in the administration of certain state-administered formula grant programs; and (b) build the capacity of TEAs to conduct certain State-level administrative functions under those programs for schools located on the tribe’s reservation.
Agency listens to commenters
OESE revised its priorities due to comments received during the rulemaking process. For example, proposed priorities would reward established TEAs and those with limited experience. The final rule provides a definition for “established TEA” to avoid confusion. It defines an established TEA as one that has a preexisting relationship (written agreement) with an SEA or school district and meets one or more of the following three criteria: (1) existing tribal education code, (2) administration of at least one education program within the past five years; or (3) administration of at least one federal, state, local, or private grant within the past five years.
