Funder: Irwin Andrew Porter Foundation; Opportunity: 2016 foundation grants; Funding Focus: Science, youth, environmental education and community capacity building; Geographic Focus: Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin; Eligibility: Nonprofits; Funding: Up to $30,000 for multiple awards; Deadline: TBA.
Summary: Funder supports projects driven by innovation. The foundation funds environmental education programs with evidence of thinking “outside of the box.” Innovative projects fostering connections among individuals, communities and the environment are given priority. In addition, the foundation funds a broad range of focus areas and is most interested in projects that require or inspire those directly benefiting from such projects to give back to their communities. Because this year the foundation is accepting applications by invitation only, it may be a good time to approach them with an initial Letter of Inquiry.
Youth and children’s groups have received grants from the foundation in the past. For example, the foundation recently gave $7,500 to the Tri-County Amicus Girls Academy in Minnesota for operating support and $7,500 to the Minnesota Conflict Resolution Center for a juvenile offender program.
