Applicants Sought for Arts & Culture Grants

grantsFoundation: Kresge Foundation; Opportunity: Arts and Culture Program — Harvesting Leading Practices; Funding Focus: Arts/culture; Geographic Focus: National; Eligibility: Schools, governments, colleges, human service agencies and 501(c)(3) nonprofits; Funding: Multiple awards (the foundation gave $140 million in grants last year); Deadline: Rolling.

Summary: The grants are part of the foundation’s new creative placemaking work in disinvested communities. It offers opportunities for organizations integrating arts and culture into specific community revitalization work. The foundation likes to see multiple project partners and places a high priority on education. For example, the foundation recently awarded a grant to Intermedia Arts in Minneapolis (http://intermediaarts.org/) for a community building and leadership program for artists, educators and community development professionals.

Other Grants

Strengthening Institutions Grants: these help postsecondary institutions focus primarily on the needs of low-income and underrepresented students. Priority goes to projects serving African American, Latino, Asian American and Pacific Islander, Native American and other underrepresented students. This is not a scholarship program, and start-ups are discouraged because grants rarely go to organizations with annual budgets of less than $1 million; rolling deadlines.
