BMS Foundation Favors Health, STEM Education Projects

Summary: Grants support the reduction of health disparities by strengthening community-based healthcare as well as improvements in K-12 education. Grants support programs that address the mental health needs of returning veterans, as well.

Other community grants focus areas include:

  1. Addressing unmet medical needs.
  2. Reducing health disparities.
  3. Eliminating barriers to treatment, especially for patients with chronic diseases.
  4. Improving the quality of science, technology and mathematics education in local schools.

A $10,000 grant to the Alliance for Children and Families, Milwaukee went for general support and a recent grant to Melmark New England, Andover, MA, supported a special education program for autistic children. Another grant, to the Lawrence Township Education Foundation in New Jersey, purchased lab equipment and supplies for a new biology curriculum.

Priority is given programs that have a direct impact on communities rather than fundraising galas and other requests for general assistance.
