Child Welfare Programs Get Aid from Carls Foundation

Summary: These private grants support children’s welfare efforts that emphasize health care facilities and programs and the prevention/treatment of hearing impairment. Focus areas include recreational, educational and welfare programs, especially for children who are disadvantaged, and preservation of natural areas, open space, historic buildings and areas having special natural beauty or significance.

The Carls Foundation has no formal application for grant requests. A letter of inquiry is not required and phone calls are welcome (313/965-0990). In the past, all grants have been made to non-profit organizations with 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status. Requests are accepted at all times, but organizations are encouraged to submit requests well in advance of the scheduled meetings.

The following schedule for trustee meetings and consideration of requests is typical:

  • January meeting — requests received by Nov. 1.
  • May meeting — requests received by March 1.
  • September meeting — requests received by July 1.
