Faith-Based Grant Maker Provides Support to Nonprofits

grantsFunder: Stuller Family Foundation; Opportunity: Foundation grants; Funding Focus: Youth, education, the underserved; Geographic Focus: Louisiana; Eligibility: Schools, nonprofits and faith-based organizations; Funding: Awards vary (the foundation distributed about $1.4 million in grants last year); Deadlines: March 1, July 1 and Oct. 1.

Summary: Funding supports religious, scientific, literary, humanitarian or educational projects. The foundation supports general operating expenses as well as specific projects. Funding decisions are made on a case-by-case basis. Scale matters because the foundation prefers to funding projects which have a greater impact, such as those involving large numbers of people and/or affecting large geographic areas. Under special circumstances, the foundation will consider supporting start-up organizations or efforts to strengthen capacity of an existing organization.

Note: Children groups have won in the past. For example, Camp Bon Coeur, Lafayette, LA, won a $5,500 grant for a children’s healthy heart camp. Another group, the Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Texas Gulf Coast/Louisiana, Metairie, LA, won a $10,000 grant for the general support of its children’s programs.
