LGBT Youth Projects Can Win Support

Funder: Colin Higgins Foundation; Opportunity: Colin Higgins Youth Courage Awards (2017); Funding Focus: Youth, crime; Geographic Focus: National; Eligibility: Individuals; Funding (estimated): Three awards of $10,000 each; Deadline (tentative): TBA, the next round of funding is to open in December; last year’s deadline was March 2.

Summary: The awards honor young people who have endured overwhelming hardships due to their sexual orientation or gender identity. The award program seeks nominations of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) youth who have stood up to hostility and intolerance based on their gender and sexual orientation and triumphed over bigotry. Nominees must be 21 or under and must be U.S. citizens. Self-nominations are not accepted. Due to the economic downturn, this is only funding program at the foundation this year. Previously, the foundation offered organizational funding for LGBT programs.
