Summary: The grants promote child and family literacy programs. Priority goes to development and expansion of new and existing literacy and educational programs. Children’s programs have won support in the past. The Beginning with Books Center for Early Literacy (www.beginningwithbooks.org), Pittsburgh, through its Storymobile program, brings reading and literacy-based activities to children from low-income families and communities that would otherwise have little or no access to books. The group, Big Creek People in Action (www.angelfire.com/bc3/bigcreek), McDowell County, (WV) provides adult and children literacy and educational programs to rural parts of the state.
