Funder: EQT Foundation; Opportunity: 2017-18 program funds; Funding Focus: Education, arts and culture, community and the environment; Geographic Focus: Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Kentucky, Ohio and Virginia; Eligibility: Nonprofits and community groups; Funding: Up to $100,000 (the foundation distributed $4.2 million in grants last year); Deadlines: Nov. 1 and Feb. 1.

Summary: Programs providing direct services to the community are encouraged. The foundation’s funding strategy embraces programs that directly touch the community and its residents, rather than fundraising initiatives designed to support general operating expenses. The foundation supports projects that demonstrate positive, significant, measurable and sustainable impacts.

Target areas:

  • Education focuses on providing economically disadvantaged students with access to programs that promote academic proficiency.
  • Arts and culture funding encourages arts initiatives for disadvantaged youth.
  • Community grants promote development of livable communities that can attract residential and commercial growth.
