NIFI Grants go for Nutrition Projects, Educational Outreach

Agency: Agriculture Dept. (USDA) Nat’l Institute of Food & Agriculture; Program: Agriculture and Food Research Initiative – Food, Agriculture, Natural Resources and Human Sciences Education and Literacy Initiative (CFDA Number: 10.310) (Funding Opportunity Number: USDA-NIFA-AFRI-006354); Eligibility: Universities, nonprofits (with or without 501(c)(3) status), tribes and for-profits, including small businesses; Funding: $18 million for multiple awards (equipment grants require a 50% match); Deadline: June 28.

Summary: The grants support: (1) professional development opportunities for K-14 teachers and education professionals; (2) training of undergraduate students in research and extension; and (3) fellowships for predoctoral and postdoctoral candidates. For the equipment grants, the USDA may waive all or part of the matching requirement if all three of the following criteria are met: 1) applicants must be a college, university, or research foundation maintained by a college or university that ranks in the lowest one third of such colleges, universities, and research foundations on the basis of Federal research funds received; 2) the equipment to be acquired using funds from the grant costs not more than $25,000; and 3) has multiple uses.
