Teen Programs, Social Justice are Funder’s Favorites

Private Funder: Haymarket People’s Fund; Opportunity: Foundation Sustaining Grants; Funding Focus: Social justice, civic engagement and youth; Geographic Focus: New England; Eligibility: Nonprofits; Funding: Grants range from $3,000 to $10,000 each; Deadline: TBD.

Summary: The fund supports community-based efforts to reduce racial discord and improve diversity. Groups which have not been funded by Haymarket during the past three years must speak with a staff person prior to submitting a request. Haymarket is committed to funding groups with limited access to traditional funding sources, such as start-ups and smaller, grassroots organizations across the region. Groups with budgets over $350,000 are ineligible.

The deadline for the Haymarket Sustaining Grants program is to be determined. Requests for Urgent Response Funding grants are accepted on a rolling basis.

Youth Groups Eligible

Youth groups have won support on a regular basis from the fund. Past award winners include: Somali Bantu Youth Assn. of Maine, the Coalition for Asian Pacific American Youth, Teach Our Children, Teacher Activist Group Boston, Providence Youth Student Movement, Student Immigrant Movement and the Youth Action Coalition.
