Mendlesohn Fund Supports Integrated Music/Math Instruction

Funders: Esther Mendlesohn Fund and the Nat’l Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM); Opportunity: 2017 Using Mathematics to Teach Music; Funding Focus: Education; Geographic Focus: National; Eligibility: Elementary classroom teachers who aremembers of NCTM or teachers at a school with a current NCTM membership; Funding: Multiple awards up to $3,000 each; Deadline: Nov. 3.

Summary: The competition encourages the incorporation of music into the elementary school classroom to help young students learn mathematics.

Any acquisition of equipment must support the proposed plan but not be the primary focus of the grant. Proposals must address the following: the combining of mathematics and music; the plan for improving students’ learning of mathematics; and the anticipated impact on students’ achievement.

Other Grants

The NCTM competition, Connecting Mathematics to Other Subject Areas Grants for Grades 9-12 Teachers program, awards multiple grants of $4,000 each for the purchase of classroom materials for high school math instruction. Materials may be in the form of books, visual displays, computer programs or displays, slide shows, videotapes, or other appropriate media.
