Store Chain Literacy Competition Helps Improve Youth Reading Skills

Summary: Grants support projects to help under-achieving students improve their literacy skills. Applicants must be located in and provide direct service within Dollar General’s 40-state market area. The program’s website offers a link to the Nat’l Literacy Directory, which should be helpful as applicants craft or enhance their program prior to applying. Grant funding is provided to assist: (1) implementing new or expanding existing literacy programs; (2) purchasing new technology or equipment to support literacy initiatives: and (3) purchasing books, materials or software for literacy programs.

The foundation will launch in January its Adult Literacy Grants competition; multiple awards of $15,000 each. Those awards help nonprofits provide direct service to adults in need of literacy assistance.
