CIGNA Foundation logoPrivate Funder: CIGNA Foundation; Opportunity: World of Difference Grants; Funding Focus: Health and children; Geographic Focus: National (there are no geographic limits, but priority is given to areas where CIGNA has a significant presence); Eligibility: Public charities with a 501(c)(3) status; Funding: Multiple awards up to $125,000 each (the foundation distributed about $3.7 million in grants last year); Deadline: Rolling.

Summary: Funding supports programs addressing the health and well-being of children and communities. Projects must focus on one of four target areas: Children’s wellness, women’s health, senior care and health equity. Pilot grants of $75,000-$125,000 will cover the initial year of this collaboration. After that pilot period, projects that meet established objectives may be offered either development or program grants at appropriate funding levels.

As a general rule, Cigna Foundation grants are intended to support specific programs providing current and direct services to individuals, families and communities. More specifically, support for capital campaigns is unlikely to be granted.

Children’s health is a foundation favorite. The foundation gave a $12,000 grant to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and $10,000 to the Phoenix Children’s Hospital.
